What is a Service?
A service is a specific item of work you provide to your customer. Examples include:
Light Duty Hook
Mileage
Winching
Labor
Environmental Cleanup
Storage
While the overall request may be to tow a vehicle, the individual work items that make up that request, such as hook, mileage, and winching, are each considered separate services.
Each service you provide is also configured in TOPS. This allows calls and invoices to accurately reflect the work performed and supports customer-specific pricing.
Service Defaults
TOPS can automatically add services to calls based on predefined criteria. These are called service defaults.
Simple Example: When an impounded vehicle is brought to a lot, the Storage service is automatically added to the call.
Advanced Example: If all of the following are selected:
Customer = ABC Trucking
Tow Type = Maintenance & Service
Reason = Dead Battery
Then the Jumpstart service can automatically be added to the call.
Accounting & Reporting Benefits
Each service can be assigned its own General Ledger (GL) account number, allowing you to separate or group revenue categories based on your accounting preferences.
Important Note: Because services can impact accounting, invoicing, and reporting, all service additions or modifications must be completed by Support.
